교회 사역의 출발지였던 서울 남가좌교회를 떠날 때가 왔다. 교회를 개척하기에 앞서 목표부터 분명히 했다. 기존 교회를 비판하는 데 시간을 보내기보다 하나님이 기뻐하시는 교회가 어떤 모습인지 실제로 보여주는 ‘모범적 교회(sample church)’를 세우는 것이 더 중요하다고 믿었다. 하나님의 종으로 부르심을 받은 감격과 감사를 무엇으로든 표현하고 싶었다.
